Abstract
Since the genesis of the motor vehicle in the 19th century, automobile competition has been one of the key tools for testing and developing new technologies, before they were mass produced and commercialized. In this context, the technologies to be developed today are increasingly linked to the environment, with the objective of improving the efficiency of vehicles by reducing emissions and fuel consumption, as well as the implementation of alternative energy sources to fossil fuels. In this context, Técnico Fuel Cell (TFC) was created, a team of students from the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) with the objective of designing and developing a competition vehicle to compete in the Shell Eco Marathon (SEM). This dissertation aims at the design and creation of the suspension system for this vehicle, as well as the creation of a study of the team and project management. For the design of the suspension system, a design approach using CAD and CAE tools is applied, more specifically through the Siemens Solid Edge software, also used in the structural analysis of the various components of the suspension system, allowing to optimize them with the aim to minimize system mass, ensuring that the requirements and loads applied to these are supported. The same software was applied in order to create technical drawings in which important information regarding the dimensions of the components is given.
