Abstract

Effects and interactions for some of the possible variables in pulsed GMAW of mild steel are examined. Emphasis is placed on how wire size and shield gas composition affect bead and deposition characteristics. Other variables included in the study are electrical stick-out and mean current where all experiments have been of a bead on plate nature. Part 1 covers the experimental method, arc running characteristics and deposition characteristics.
