Fracture toughness of different types of granite

Resumo

The fracture behavior of six different types of granite was studied using single-edge notched beam (SENB) test-pieces. The obtained fracture toughness values demonstrate differences among the six types of granite ranging from 0.377 MPa m1/2 (CP) to 0.607 MPa m1/2 (SAB). The results allow the classification of the rock materials according to their fracture toughness, which leads to an improved and systematic characterization of ornamental stones.
