Abstract

With the current housing shortage, particularly in Lisbon and Porto, coupled with an insufficient number of construction companies and a clear shortage of skilled labor, concrete prefabrication presents a renewed and reinforced interest. In order to reduce costs and execution time, modularization appears to be the most appropriate solution. However, as Portugal is a highly seismic country, characterizing the behaviour of prefabricated reinforced concrete structures under horizontal actions is essential in order to support designers in dimensioning this type of structure, guaranteeing the safety and reliability of projects in the event of earthquakes. In this dissertation, three types of numerical simulation of a shear test were proposed for a precast concrete wall connected to a reinforced concrete beam exclusively by connecting bars. After calibrating and validating the proposed types of numerical modeling, a parametric study was carried out with the aim of studying the effect of the following variables on the wall's performance under horizontal actions: axial force applied at the top of the wall, concrete compressive strength, connection diameter, connection position and number of connections. Of the three types of numerical modeling presented, two showed results close to those of the experimental test, thus providing confidence to be used in the design phase and for future research. For parameters such as the yield force, force for the maximum displacement considered and maximum force of the wall-beam system, these two models showed values with errors of less than 9%.
