Resumo

To increase the energy efficiency of a building ventilated cladding kits, have, lately, been used as an insulation system of building. A ventilated cladding kit is formed by two or more layers of transparent or opaque material placed on the exterior of a building, forming a channel between the wall and the coating where air circulates. It is the air running through this channel that is used to remove part of the thermal load absorbed by the walls. This thesis aims to improve the performance of ventilated cladding kits with aluminium composite panels. To reach this objective, a simulation of the mechanical behaviour of this kit is developed and the results validated with experimental work. The principal objective of this work is to validate the use of numerical methods to improve performance and reduce costs of a ventilated cladding kit. To achieve this objective, it was studied the requirements that need to be fulfilled so a ventilated cladding kit is able to be considered as fit to use. The effects that most influence the behaviour of these kits and the limits of deformation and tension were also studied. After knowing the above data, it was then possible to perform some numerical simulations and experimental tests to improve the technical characteristics of the exterior coating and cladding fixing of a ventilated cladding kit. At the end of the work it was possible to propose improved geometries for the cladding fixing and for the exterior coating of this ventilated cladding kit.
