Abstract
This dissertation aims to develop strategies for alternative public space, with the main objective of uniting peri-urban areas, fragmented by the road system, and to create socialization spaces, applying for the purpose a methodology of evaluation. The Town of Lumiar, taken as a case study, presents a fragmented reading either by the road system (Avenida Padre Cruz, North-South Mall Towers lines) that facilitate access to visual and constitutes sound barriers; as by the morphology of the building decontextualized in relation to the historic ,that generates visual interruptions. These elements gradually isolate the location of its context and fragment the urban fabric, creating obstacles and discouraging use. Based on the recognition of this problem and analysing historical elements of mobility, it is possible to generalize in order to understand the evolution of cities, the interaction between the systems of mobility and public space, in peripheral areas, such as study, the Lumiar.
