O sistema de viga Vierendeel - Aplicação a um edifício

Given the buildings with large open areas, that nowadays are designed, the knowledge of various kinds of elements capable of overcoming large spans is increasingly important. In this context the current study was carry out to deepen the knowledge about a possible solution taking advantage of the Vierendeel beam. Because this type of solution is composed only of vertical and horizontal elements, it makes it more easily integrated into the architecture of a building, including in the system at least two structural levels. The main characteristics of the behavior of this structural system are summarized and a design of a Vierendeel beam integrated in the structure of a building is presented. A detailed study of this case involving a specific area of the project, at the tendering phase, for the new Todos os Santos Hospital is made. The work includes the entire design process using a prestressed solution and the steel display it´s later discussed based on a strut and tie study of the different elements. These zones that are often less considered at the project level deserve special attention to ensure good behavior of the whole structure.
