Resumo
The necessity of understanding the behavior of regions in structures where abrupt changes in stress trajectories occur, commonly referred to as discontinuity regions, has driven the development of alternative methods to the traditional sectional method. Stress field models have emerged as an important tool in these scenarios, offering a straightforward methodology for computing involved forces and revealing their progression inside the structure. However, the freedom to select multiple analysis models for the same situation, raises questions regarding their suitability for designing those regions, which makes it necessary to analyze practical cases to acquire experience and sound judgement when assessing the obtained results. Although, originally developed for assessing discontinuity regions in reinforced concrete structures subjected to monotonic loading conditions, these models have been widely used in seismic design and other situations of cyclic loading. In these contexts, these models have proven to be a powerful and flexible tool. This dissertation studies the beam-column joint region, under reversed cyclic loading conditions, using continuous stress field models. The objective is to contribute to a better understanding and a more precise approach to analyze and design beam/column joints, thereby presenting alternatives to conventional models.
