The solution of stress-corrosion problems is an interdisciplinary task. In spite of the important chemical aspects, we can only improve the study and the resolution of these problems looking to Stress Corrosion Cracking (SCC) also as a subcritical crack growth process and using fracture mechanics concepts. So, in this paper, not only the usual tests for determining susceptibility to SCC of metallic materials are introduced, but also it is shown how the stress at the root of a crack can be described quantitatively by the stress intensity parameter K and how a threshold value K(SCC) can be defined below which cracks do not propagate or propagate extremely slowly.
