Abstract

Part II of this work concerns only the fracture control procedures in materials under monotonically increasing loads. Firstly, the experimental technique for determining Fracture Toughness under plain strain conditions, K(Ic), is described using as an example the ASTM standardized method. A brief reference to the situations of plane stress and transitional behavior is also made. Finally, some practical applications of LEFM (Linear Elastic Fracture Mechanics) concepts: K(Ic) and the more recent S(c) are shown.
