Ana Ferreira is a Researcher in Thermofluids and Energy Conversion Technologies area of the Mechanical Engineering department of Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), University of Lisbon. She graduated in 2005 and obtained her master's degree in 2008 in Chemistry, in the environmental area of atmospheric aerosol analysis and atmospheric exposure, respectively, at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon. In 2013, she completed her PhD in Environmental Engineering at IST at the University of Lisbon. Currently, as a Researcher at IDMEC-IST, she has research in alternative biomass, conversion processes, biofuels, hydrogen, life cycle and sustainability. She has author of more than 34 publications in scientific journals (h index 21), 4 book chapters, 1 book editor and has over 40 oral or panel participations in international and national conferences. She participated in 12 international and national Projects, one of them she participates as national Principal Investigator. She also organized seminars/workshops and was member of the local organized committee of several conferences. She received a Scientific Award from University of Lisbon/Caixa Geral de Depósitos 2024, in the Environmental and Energy Engineering area. In 2017, she received an honorable mention from the University of Lisbon, ULisboa / Santander Universities Scientific Awards. It was awarded third place in the YEAR 2012 Young European Researchers Competition - The Young European Arena of Research during the Transportation Research Arena (TRA2012) conference in Athens in 2012. She supervises a PhD student since 2022 and was invited to be judged on a PhD thesis. She has supervised more than 36 MSc. She was invited to be a judge on more than 32 master's theses. She has been Invited Assistant Professor of the Dept. of Mechanical Engineering at IST since September 2021 and was Invited Assistant Professor from 2016 to 2018. She was invited to do a webinar for high school on sustainability and circular economy within the scope of citizenship education. She was invited to participate in a digital conference organized by Fórum de Energia e Clima about Hydrogen in 2020. She was also invited in May 2021 to moderate the section “O futuro do Hidrogénio como vetor energético” on Conferência Engenharia ao Limite, organized by student association of IST (AEIST). Her main research interests include biomass valorization; conversion technologies (eg. combustion, carbonization, pyrolysis and gasification); Hydrogen production and usage; biofuels; energy and environment (emissions); sustainability and circular economy; biomass and society; education area.
