João Baltazar, Graduation in Marine Engineering (IST), M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering (IST) and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering (IST). João Baltazar is a researcher of MARETEC – Marine, Environment and Technology Centre. He has relevant expertise in the topic of numerical modelling applied to marine propellers and turbines, and renewable energy systems. He has over twenty years of experience on the development of potential flow codes and RANS methods. His research aims at creating accurate, robust and fast computational tools to be used for the design and analysis of rotors. He has worked on the development of the IST in-house panel code PROPAN. Later, he worked on the development of the RANS code ReFRESCO in collaboration with the Maritime Research Institute Netherlands (MARIN). He is invited professor at IST. João teaches or has taught courses such as Fluid Mechanics, Resistance and Propulsion, Offshore Wind Energy, Marine Current & Tidal Energy and Modeling and Control of Ocean Energy Systems. In 2022, João has initiated a new collaboration with WavEC in the area of numerical modelling using different engineering codes. In the last year, João has been working on the design and analysis of mooring systems.
