Dr. Brij Mohan is a materials chemist specializing in metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), covalent organic frameworks (COFs), hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks (HOFs), functional nanocomposites, chemical sensing, and materials for energy and environmental applications. He is currently a Senior Researcher at the Centro de Química Estrutural (CQE), Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade de Lisboa, Portugal, where his research focuses on the rational design, synthesis, structural characterization, and electrochemical evaluation of advanced porous and hybrid materials. His work integrates reticular chemistry, coordination chemistry, nanomaterials, electrochemistry, and sensor engineering to develop functional materials with tunable structure–property relationships. Dr. Mohan has been recognized with international academic and scientific appointments, including Visiting Professor at Chiang Mai University, Thailand, Professor in MOF Sensors (Category A Talent) at Hainan Normal University, China, and PI & Head of the Nanochemistry Laboratory and External Scientific Lead (Remote) at NanoTRIZ, Australia. He has authored more than 155 SCI-indexed research publications, receiving over 3,800 citations, with a Scopus H-index of 34 and Google Scholar H-index of 36. He was recognized as one of Stanford University’s World’s Top 2% Most-Cited Scientists in both 2024 and 2025, reflecting the international visibility and impact of his research. His current scientific interests encompass the development of MOFs, COFs, HOFs, porous composites, two-dimensional materials, and functional interfaces for chemical and biosensing, healthcare diagnostics, food-safety monitoring, environmental contaminant detection, water remediation, selective adsorption and separation, catalysis, and sustainable energy technologies. Particular emphasis is placed on electrochemical and optical sensing, molecular recognition, ion transport, structure–property relationships, osmotic energy conversion, and nanogenerator-based energy harvesting. Beyond research, Dr. Mohan is actively engaged in international scientific leadership, graduate research mentoring, scholarly publishing, and peer review. He serves on the editorial boards of BMC Chemistry and Discover Materials and regularly reviews research for leading journals published by ACS, the Royal Society of Chemistry, Elsevier, Wiley, and Springer Nature. His research activities and international collaborations have been supported by competitive grants from organizations including the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT), Portugal; the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC); and the Shenzhen Science and Technology Innovation Commission. His broader research vision is to establish structure-guided porous and hybrid materials as intelligent platforms for molecular recognition, environmental monitoring, healthcare, and sustainable energy conversion, bridging fundamental materials chemistry with practical sensing and energy technologies.
