António Jorge Silvestre is Coordinator Professor at the Department of Physics of the Instituto Superior de Engenharia de Lisboa - ISEL, Portugal, since 2001, and was invited Associated Professor at the Department of Physics of the Instituto Superior Técnico, Portugal, from 2015 to 2022. His current scientific interests include the deposition of functional oxide thin films (e.g. CrO2,Fe3O4, transition metal doped TiO2 and SnO2) by chemical and physical methods, and their structural, optical, electrical and magnetic characterization. He has been also interested on the synthesis of nanostructured materials by chemical routes with potential application on heterogeneous photocatalysis for the degradation of organic pollutants. He co-authored a book on mechanics (with six editions since 2013) and other on General Physics (2022). He published several dozen of papers in international journals, various book chapters and several other research papers in proceedings of international conferences and on educational physics subjects. He was Secretary of the General Assembly of the Portuguese Society of Physics (2001-2019) and enrolled in outreach events. He is currently reviewer for numerous leading research journals, having received certificates of outstanding contribution in reviewing from several Elsevier journals. He has also been collaborating with the FCT and the Czech Science Foundation as evaluator of research projects. He was awarded the "Excellent Teacher" distinction at IST in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021.
