Rui Sampaio is a PhD candidate in Mechanical Engineering at Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade de Lisboa, Portugal. He obtained a MSc in Mechanical Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico in 2021, where he also serves as researcher of the Manufacturing and Industrial Management Unit since 2017 and as an invited teaching assistant since 2022. He received the 'Professor Mário Costa' Young Researcher Award by the Associated Laboratory for Energy, Transports and Aeronautic in May of 2022. In September of 2023, he was also awarded the International Award for Young Researchers by the Japanese Society for Technology of Plasticity (JSTP). His research interests are focused on metal forming and formability, joining by plastic deformation, and additive manufacturing.
