Miguel Moreira da Silva is a Portuguese professional in Energy Systems and was selected, in 2013, one of the 100 "Future Energy Leaders" by the World Energy Council. Moreira da Silva holds a 5-year degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems field) from the Faculty of Engineering - University of Porto (FEUP), a Postgrad and a Doctor degree (PhD) in Sustainable Energy Systems from the joint program offered by Massachusetts Institute of Technology, IST-University of Lisbon and FEUP. Moreira da Silva currently works at REN (Portugal’s transmission system operator of electricity and gas grids) as Head of Asset Management and R&D Leader. In addition, since September 2013 Moreira da Silva has been Visiting Lecturer at IST (Technical University of Lisbon) within the MSc in Power Systems Engineering. Previously, Miguel Moreira da Silva developed engineering and management activities at Itron (former Schlumberger Industries, North American solution provider for smart grids), Iskra (Slovenian metering and energy data management company), INESC (University of Porto’s R&D center focused in energy systems) and EDF Energies Nouvelles (wind farms). He was also Deputy to the Minister for Agriculture, Sea, Environment and Spatial Planning, in the XIX Portuguese Government, holding the Cabinet’s responsibility for renewable energy, resource efficiency, climate change and water sector. Moreira da Silva has already published and presented several works at national and international conferences on Energy Systems. In terms of prizes, he received the next awards: “Outstanding Presentation” - IEEE Green Energy and Systems Conference (CA, US); “Author of the Best Poster Award” - 2nd Transatlantic Conference on Renewable Energies; and “Best National Traineeship – Electrical Engineering Society” from the Portuguese Professional Association of Engineers.
