Cristina Matos Silva graduated in Civil Engineering (5 years) in 2000 at IST/UL. Between 2000 and 2002 she worked as a Structural Engineer gaining experience in design of reinforced concrete structures, steel structures and wood construction. She finished her PhD in Civil Engineering in 2006 (IST/UL) with the thesis “Non-conventional finite elements with continuum damage”, where she benefited from the knowledge and experience gained as Project Engineer. She has been an Assistant Professor at IST/UL since 2007, lecturing courses in Building Physics and Building Facilities. Her research interests focus on Sustainability in Construction, namely Green Roofs/Green Walls, their economic evaluation, thermal performance and maintenance planning in a Mediterranean climate. Her work also evaluates the efficiency of rainwater harvesting systems, at both urban and building scale and when combined with green roof solutions. She is a of founding member of the Portuguese Green Roof Association, included in the European Federation of Green Roof Associations, and a member the Portuguese Technical Committees for green roofing and rainwater harvesting systems in buildings. She has supervised/co-supervised more than 40 MSc thesis, integrated 2 National Research Projects as team member and 1 International Research Project as a subcontractor consultant. She co-authored 14 peer-reviewed papers and more than 20 oral presentations at national and international conferences, as well as several technical seminars and training courses.
