Luís Cerqueira Alves earned his PhD in Physics from the Lisbon University and has authored or co-authored more than 200 scientific articles in peer reviewed national and international journals. He is a researcher at Center for Nuclear Sciences and Technologies from the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) and has been working in the development and application of ion beam analytical techniques with the 2.5MV Van de Graaff accelerator installed at IST, in particular using a Nuclear Microprobe. The main applications of the implemented techniques have been performed in material sciences, environmental, mineralogy and cultural heritage fields
