Luísa Coheur graduated in Applied Mathematics and Computation from Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), Universidade de Lisboa, and has a Master degree also from IST. She has a PhD in Computer Science from both IST and Université Blaise-Pascal (France). She is currently a researcher at INESC-ID, and an Associate Professor at IST (Dep. of Computer Science and Engineering). Luísa Coheur is an expert in Natural Language Processing, and her main research interests are Dialogue Systems, Question/Answering and Machine Translation. She strongly believes that science should serve the public good and has been working on a platform to help children with autism to improve their language skills, and in a Text-to-Sign translator to LGP (Língua Gestual Portuguesa). She participated in several international and national projects, published around 100 refereed papers, and supervised more than 70 Master students and 5 PhDs. She is also a part-time writer, and published 3 (non-scientific) books -- Sete histórias por acontecer (2001), Acabou-se! (2001) and E-medo (2007) – and two short stories in the books A República nunca existiu (2008) and O Mensageiro das Estrelas (2012). Both Acabou-se and E-medo won literature prizes.
