I am an Associate Professor with habilitation at Instituto Superior Técnico of Lisbon University and a Senior Researcher at LIP, Laboratório de Instrumentação e Física Experimental de Partículas in Lisbon, Portugal, where I coordinate the activities related to Space applications, in the field of Space Radiation Environment and Effects. I am also with the Portuguese group participating in the Pierre Auger Observatory and a member of the Geant4 collaboration. My main research work in the past 20 years was centred in astroparticle physics experiments and in the study of the Particle and Radiation Environment in Space and of its Effects, including the modeling of planetary and interplanetary radiation environments, the development of energetic particle radiation detectors for future space missions and data analysis and on the test of EEE components and the modeling of their response. I am interested in the description of the radiation environment in the Heliosphere and in non-terrestrial planetary environments and of its effects on Human Space Flight and for Astrobiology studies. I am also fostering developments in the field of Health applications of radiation. I completed my Ph.D. in Physics at Instituto Superior Técnico in 2002 in the context of the Portuguese participation in the LEP accelerator DELPHI experiment at CERN.
