The candidate is a Researcher with 12 years of working experience in the study and development of Railway Technology. With his background in Mechanical Engineering, he has been developing computational tools to investigate the dynamics of railway vehicles and pantographs and their interaction with the infrastructure in real operation conditions, aiming at optimizing the current railway systems and fostering innovations in this area of knowledge. The development of the Multibody Software MUBODyn from scratch is his main scientific contribution, which has been proven in an international benchmark, competing with world leading software, such as SIMPACK, VI-Rail, VAMPIRE, and NUCARS. Since 2011, the candidate has participated in 3 National research projects in close collaboration with the rail industry, named SMARTRACK (165k€ budget), WEARWHEEL (133k€ budget), and VOUGA (37k€ budget), developing these activities at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), University of Lisbon. These works contributed to his MSc and PhD in Mechanical Engineering in 2013 and 2019, respectively. During his PhD, he was a visiting scholar at the railway research group of Polictenico di Milano (Italy). After his PhD, the candidate joined the Institute of Railway Research, University of Huddersfield (UoH), in the UK, as a Research Fellow where he actively worked on the European projects S2R-NextGear (2.6M€ budget), S2R-In2Track2 (29M€ budget) and S2R-PantOCL (700k€ budget), as well as in the EPSRC project Track2Future (5.2M£ budget). Currently, the candidate is a Principal Industrial Researcher at MainRail (Spanish Company) and invited Professor at IST. During his career, the candidate has contacted directly with research groups and railway industries from Portugal, Italy, and the UK. He has published 17 journal papers in reputable peer-reviewed international journals and he accounts for an h-index of 12, according to SCOPUS. The candidate also supervised with success 3 MSc theses at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) and 1 PhD thesis at the University of Huddersfield, and, currently, he supervises 1 MSc thesis and 1 PhD thesis at IST. Since 2021, the candidate integrated jury committees for 2 MSc and 2 PhD theses. Since 2020, the candidate was invited to be part of the Editorial Board of the 5th International Conference on Railway Technology and the 2nd National Conference on Multibody Dynamics. In 2022, the candidate is Associate Editor of the Mechanism and Machine Theory and Guest Editor of the special issue Railway Vehicles and Infrastructure, which illustrates the merit and international recognition of his work. Since 2015, he performed 91 revisions of scientific papers for publication in 20 international journals and was invited to participate in the jury committee of 4 MSc and 2 PhD theses.
