Is currently a PhD. student in the field of autonomous vessels in the Centre for Marine Technology and Ocean Engineering (CENTEC) of Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), University of Lisbon, Portugal. Has been a Research Assistant for several years at CENTEC working on the installation of arrays of sensors, data acquisition and processing, and testing in vessels and scaled vessels models within the context of several research projects involving, for example, guidance, navigation and control, manoeuvrability, weather routing, and onboard autonomous observing systems. He has also developed research work on reliability and maintenance modelling and simulation of offshore wind turbines considering, e.g. degradation processes, economic dependencies, operational and maintenance costs, weather conditions, the optimization of different maintenance policies and risk-based analysis and assessment. While working on a private consultant company for a couple of years developed research work in a European Research Project aimed at developing a methodology to identify ships for inspection and survey based on a risk model. He received the Degree and the MSc. degree in mechanical engineering from IST and from the Faculty of Science and Technology, Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Lisbon, Portugal, in 2002 and 2012, respectively. He also completed an Advanced Training Diploma in Risk Assessment, Safety and reliability at IST in 2007.
