Biography

I am currently a researcher and laboratory technician at the Laboratório de Biomecânica de Lisboa (LBL, Lisbon Biomechanics Lab) and the Laboratório de Biomecânica dos Tecidos (LBT, Tissue Biomechanics Lab) at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), Universidade de Lisboa. My research interests lie at the intersection of computational and experimental biomechanics, multibody dynamics, human motion analysis, gait analysis, tissue biomechanics, medical devices, and additive manufacturing. In addition to my research activities, I am a visiting lecturer at Escola Superior de Saúde (ESSATLA), Universidade Atlântica, where I teach Biomechanics. I have also served as a teaching assistant in several undergraduate and graduate courses lectured at IST, LBL, and LBT, covering topics related to biomechanics, biomaterials, and medical device development. I received my PhD in Mechanical Engineering from IST with the thesis On the Analysis of Spatial Multibody Systems using Fully Cartesian Coordinates with a Generic Rigid Body – An Application to Biomechanics and Advanced Education. My doctoral research focused on the development of novel methodologies for the acquisition and analysis of human movement, including advanced multibody formulations and biomechanical modeling. I also hold an MSc in Biomedical Engineering from IST, where I was first introduced to biomechanics. Since then, I have participated in several R&D projects at IDMEC and LBL, contributing to multiple funded initiatives and scientific publications. To date, I am the author or co-author of 32 peer-reviewed journal articles, eight book chapters, and more than 100 conference papers, abstracts, and posters presented at national and international conferences. I am currently involved in three funded research projects and have previously contributed to six others. My work has been recognized with eight awards, including the ISB Best PhD Student Award.
