Marta M. Alves finished her course on Chemistry in 2003 at the Universidade de Lisboa Instituto Superior Técnico and her PhD in Biochemistry in 2010 at Universidade Nova de Lisboa. Currently, she is a researcher at Associação do Instituto Superior Técnico para a Investigação e Desenvolvimento. She has published over 40 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals, supervised several MSc and PhD theses, and supported several short-term fellowships. Her main research topic is focused on developing and studying biofunctional materials either to promote materials' interaction with biostuff or by developing new bio-based materials to promote well-being and support the creation of eco-friendlier materials for greener societal transitions. My broader view has involved me in other areas, namely as a reviewer of scientific articles and projects, as a Managing and Guest Editor of a high-impact journal in the field, as an organiser of scientific meetings, and as a member of the executive committee of her research center, Centro de Química Estrutural (CQE).
