The main focus of my research is the use of supercritical fluid (SCF) technology to process bioactive compounds: 1 – extraction and fractionation from non-edible biomass 2- micronization of pharmaceutical ingredients I have expertise in SCF extraction and fractionation for downstream processing of microalgae biomass, and for valorization of wastes/by-products from agro-food industry. My scientific interest include the use of SCFs for the production of micro and nanoparticles of pharmaceutical ingredients, biopharmaceuticals and bioactive compounds.

Beatriz P. Nobre graduated in Chemical Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), Universidade de Lisboa (UL). After graduation, she worked in the industry, for 1 year, as chemical engineer (quality control laboratory) of a welding processes and equipment’s company. Later, B. P. Nobre return to Academia and won a PhD grant (FTC , Portugal) in the area of Chemical Engineering. She got her PhD (2007) at Instituto Superior Técnico, Lisbon University, studying solid-liquid phase-equilibrium measurements, particularly solubility measurements of carotenoids in supercritical fluids. Afterwards, in order to improve her scientific knowledge and diverse her background, B. P. Nobre was granted a Post-Doctoral grant (FCT, Portugal) in the field of biotechnology to carry out research in the area of bioenergy and biorefineries, at the Bioenergy and Biorrefineries Unit (UBB) of LNEG I.P. (Portugal). Her research studies concerned the use of green solvents for microalga biomass downstream processing in a biorefinery concept, as well as valorization of agro-food solid waste residues. The output of this research were 4 papers as first author and two book chapters, concerning extraction and fractionation processes with supercritical fluids to obtain high added-value compounds from the aforementioned biomasses. She also worked in life cycle analysis for microalgae feedstock biorefineries. In 2015 B. P. Nobre moved to Centro de Quimica Estrutural (CQE), Universidade de Lisboa, with a post-doctoral grant (FCT, Portugal) to work in the field of particle\ design and crystal engineering using supercritical fluid processes. Her research focused in the use of green techniques to design nanoparticles of pharmaceutical ingredients and bioactive compounds. Later she was also involved in the studies of as well as catalysts and nanomaterials for CO2 capture. Currently, B. P. Nobre is a researcher at CQE-IMS (Universidade de Lisboa) studying the production/obtaining of bioactive compounds through the use green, eco-frined and environmentally sustainable solvents (e.g. supercritical fluids , pressurized biobased solvents and Natural Deep Eutetic Solvents) for separation processes. Her main interests are: - extraction fractionation and purification of bioactive compounds from several biomasses: microorganisms (microalgae, yeast and bacteria), agro-food solid wastes and non-edible plant materials, within a biorefinery context; - particle design and crystal engineering for the production of nano and microparticles of pharmaceutical ingredients, bioactive compounds, catalysts and other materials); -supercritical impregnation and sterilization of Pharmaceutical ingredients for medical and materials - heterogeneous catalytic reactions using green routes. Over the last 10 years she participated in three national funding projects as research team member and in three Cost Actions. During this period she also submitted several proposals for attracting funding in national and international calls. Although these were evaluated as excellent they did not reach the level to be proposed for funding. B. P. Nobre is currently supervising 4 MSc student, and she has completed the supervision of 2 PhD, 8 MSc students, 1 Erasmus student and 4 research fellow. She is also an invited Assistant Professor at Departamento de Engenharia Química (DEQ), IST, UL. B. P. Nobre interrupted her scientific activity three times (2005, 2009 and 2019) due to maternity leave. Finally, during her scientific career, she published 40 original research articles, reviews and book chapters with a total of more than 1560 citations (h-index 20, scopus), besides more than 40 presentations in international conferences with invited lectures, oral communications and poster presentations.
