José Paulo Farinha completed his PhD in Chemical Engineering (Technical University of Lisboa, 1996) and a postdoc in Polymer and Colloid Chemistry (University of Toronto, 1997-1999). He is Full Professor of Physical-Chemistry, Materials and Nanosciences, at the Chemical Engineering Department of Instituto Superior Técnico.

Interesses científicos

Research and development of novel advanced functional materials, in particular nanostructured materials, featuring significant interaction with light, targeting applications in the energy, biomedical and environmental fields. Key areas involved: Polymers and Colloids; Emulsion and miniemulsion polymerization; Controled radical polymerization (RAFT); Nanoparticles and hybrid nanostructured materials; Polymer coatings; Optical sensor materials; Fluorescence (spectroscopy, time resolved and laser scanning microscopy).
