José Monteiro received an Engineering and an MSc degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 1989 and 1992 respectively, from the Technical University of Lisbon, and a PhD degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in 1996 from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is a Full Professor at Instituto Superior Técnico, having recently served as Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. He is a senior member of IEEE and a senior researcher at INESC-ID in Lisbon, where he was director for 8 years. He has published over 120 research papers, and has served on numerous steering and technical program committees. He received Best Paper Awards from the IEEE Transactions on VLSI, and from three conferences. His main interests are in the areas of high-performance computing, computer architecture, parallel algorithms and electronic design automation.
