José Monteiro received an Engineering and an MSc degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 1989 and 1992 respectively, from the Technical University of Lisbon, and a PhD degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in 1996 from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is a Full Professor at Instituto Superior Técnico, having recently served as Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. He is a senior member of IEEE and a senior researcher at INESC-ID in Lisbon, where he was director for 8 years.
