Paulo Martins is Professor of Manufacturing at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) and a Fellow of the International Academy for Production Engineering (CIRP). He earned his PhD in Mechanical Engineering in 1991 and his Habilitation in 1999. In 2018, he was awarded Doctor Technices Honoris Causa by the Technical University of Denmark. In 2021, he received the International Prize for R&D in Precision Forging from the Japan Society for Technology of Plasticity. He has served as President of both the Scientific Council and the School Council at IST.

Paulo Martins is Professor of Manufacturing in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon, and a Fellow of the International Academy for Production Engineering (CIRP). He obtained his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico in 1991, and the Habilitation in Mechanical Engineering in 1999. In 2018, he was awarded the degree of Doctor Technices Honoris Causa by the Technical University of Denmark. Paulo Martins was a member of the Standing Advisory Board of ICTP (International Conference on Technology of Plasticity) from 2009 to 2023. In 2021, he received the International Prize for R&D in Precision Forging from the Japan Society for Technology of Plasticity (JSTP). He held several senior academic leadership roles at Instituto Superior Técnico, including President of the Scientific Council (2009–2012) and President of the School Council (2017–2020). He also served on the General Council of the University of Lisbon from 2022 to 2025. His research and technology transfer activities focus on manufacturing processes, with particular emphasis on metal forming processes, joining by plastic deformation, and hybrid additive manufacturing. He is a co-author of several books and international patents and has published more than 500 papers in international journals and conference proceedings.
