Mário Figueiredo received his PhD (1994) and "Agregado" (2004) degrees in Electrical & Computer Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon, where he is a Distinguished Professor and the Feedzai Professor of Machine Learning. He is area coordinator at Instituto de Telecomunicações. He is a Fellow of the IEEE, IAPR, and EURASIP, and received the IEEE Signal Processing Society Best Paper Award, Baker Award, IAPR Pierre Devijver Award, EURASIP Technical Achievement Award.
