His research work is centered in heterogeneous catalysis, namely in selective oxidation of light organic compounds by transition mixed oxides. More recently he has applied his university experience to: industrial reactor optimization AdI-INOVA (Quimigal, FCTUC). decontamination of gaseous effluents (NOx, VOC's). ultra-deep hydrodesulphurization of diesel fuel (Petrogal) industrial reactor optimization AdI-AROMA (CUF, FCTUC). industrial reactor optimization QREN-CUFTECH (CUF, FCTUC). industrial reactor design QREN-IBERDIESEL (IBEROL) industrial reactor design IST-CARDA (CUF) industrial process diagnosis and reactor optimization IST-CUFISCA (CUF) This research work has led him to study and use many different techniques such as gas-phase chromatography, mass spectrometry, X-ray diffraction, XPS, mercury porosimetry, BET surface area, measurement of electric conductivity of solids, thermogravimetry, DTA, temperature programmed desorption, measurements of catalytic reaction rates by continuous flow and pulse techniques and using several types of laboratory reactors, etc..
