João Pires holds a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Technical University of Lisboa. Currently, he is an Assistant Professor at IST, where he has lectured extensively on optical communications and telecommunications networks. His supervision experience includes six Ph.D. theses and more than thirty M.Sc. theses. He has contributed to several European-funded projects, including RACE and ACTS, and has authored or co-authored over 140 papers in international journals and conference proceedings, with a Google Scholar H-index of 19.
