Susana Neto worked in research and policy for integrated water management and territorial planning for the last 30 years, holding a degree in Civil Engineering (1982), a MSc in Urban and Regional Planning (1987), and a PhD in Water and Territorial Planning (2010). Her fields of expertise cover ‘Water and Territorial Planning’, ‘Water Governance’, ‘Water Policy’, ‘Regional Planning’, ‘Sustainable Urban Development’, and she has published, and presented more than 150 titles in water and territorial planning related matters.

Susana Neto worked in research and policy for integrated water management and territorial planning for the last 30 years, holding a degree in Civil Engineering (1982), a MSc in Urban and Regional Planning (1987), and a PhD in Water and Territorial Planning (2010). Her fields of expertise cover ‘Water and Territorial Planning’, ‘Water Governance’, ‘Water Policy’, ‘Regional Planning’, ‘Sustainable Urban Development’, and she has published, and presented more than 150 titles in water and territorial planning related matters. The affiliations of Susana Neto include positions as Adjunct Professor at the University of Western Australia (Faculty of Science) since 2012, Adjunct Professor with the University of Griffith since 2018, Researcher at University of Lisbon since 2003, and full research member of the Centre of Civil Engineering Research and Innovation for Sustainability / CERIS, since 2014. She is also an appointed member of the Water Governance Initiative Group (WGI) in OECD, since 2016. Between 2018 and 2021 she was elected President of the Portuguese Water Resources Association, and Board director of the Portuguese Governing Member of IWA. Since 2013, Susana Neto is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal World Water Policy (PSO / Wiley publishers. Her career in Public Administration in Portugal included active participation in reforms of the institutional framework of water management, coordination role in the first National Water Plan and 15 river basin plans (1997 to 2001), and representation of Portugal in the European Operational Programme URBACT II (2007 to 2014), being currently Ad-hoc Expert in this Program. In the last 2 decades, she has codesigned, structured, and delivered more than 20 new courses and modules for 300 participants from 70 different countries in Universities in Europe (Portugal, Germany, The Netherlands), and in Australia (UWA, Queensland and Griffith), developing and applying innovative methodologies for co-learning for integrated water management and water governance.
