Isabel Ribeiro is a Full Professor (retired since december 2021) and Distinguished Professor of Robotics at the Instituto Superior Técnico. She is a senior researcher at the Institute for Systems and Robotics (ISR-Lisbon), a unit of the Associate Laboratory LARSyS. Her area of expertise is robotics. She pioneered the introduction of Mobile Robotics in Portugal in the early 90s.

Isabel Ribeiro is Full Professor (retired) and Distinguished Professor of Robotics at the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), the School of Engineering of the Universidade de Lisboa and is affiliated with the Institute for Systems and Robotics (ISR|Lisbon) a member of LARSyS (Laboratory of Robotics and Engineering Systems). She was Director of the Institute for Systems and Robotics (ISR) from Jan.06 to Jul.07. At ISR she carries out R&D work in the area of autonomous robotics. She founded and was the responsible of the Mobile Robotics Laboratory (LRM) from 1994 to 2009 that in 2010 integrated the Intelligent and Robots Systems Group. Her research interests include indoor and outdoor land mobile robot navigation, cooperative robotics and cooperative navigation, maping and world model and representation. She leads or is involved in a number of national and international R&D projects in the areas of Remote Handling for ITER, Mobile Robotics Navigation, Environment Reconstruction and Mobile Robotics Cooperation. She was the Chair of the IFAC Technical Committee on Intelligent Autonomous Vehicles (2005-2008) and a member of the Education key area of EURON. She has been actively involved in R&D and university management activities. She was adviser of the board of FCT (the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology) for the areas of R&D projects and units from 2008 to 2011, and Vice-President of IST for Administrative and Financial affairs in 2012 and 2013, and Vice-Presidente of IST for Administrative Modernization 2020-2021. She was an elected member of the School Council of IST from December 2013 to January 2016, and Vice-President from June 2014 to January 2016. From February 2016 to August 2017 she was a member of the Board of FCT. She was selected as one of the "Women in Science" by Ciência Viva.
