O Departamento de Matemática do Instituto Superior Técnico, Lisboa, é o maior Departamento de Matemática português. A missão do Departamento de Matemática do IST é promover o desenvolvimento das actividades de Investigação em Matemática e promover um ensino superior de qualidade em Matemática, quer enquanto ciência essencial às áreas de Engenharia, Ciência e Tecnologia, quer enquanto disciplina autónoma, pura ou aplicada, nas vertentes de graduação e pós-graduação. As actividades de investigação do Departamento decorrem, na sua maioria, no âmbito de Centros de Investigação. Estes incluem: - Centro de Análise Funcional, Estruturas Lineares e Aplicações. - Centro de Análise Matemática, Geometria e Sistemas Dinâmicos. - Centro de Matemática Computacional e Estocástica. - Grupo de Segurança e Informação Quântica, parte do Laboratório Associado IT. Existe um pequeno número de membros do Departamento filiado noutros Centros de Investigação ou não filiado.
