O Centro de Análise e Processamento de Sinais foi criado em 1975, tendo sucedido ao Laboratório de Análises de Sinais. Tinha como missão a criação e a transferência de ciência e tecnologia e como objetivos: realização de actividades de investigação e desenvolvimento; realização de actividades de divulgação científica e tecnológica; apoio às actividades de ensino de graduação e de pós-graduação do IST; prestação de serviços ao exterior nas áreas científicas e tecnológicas em que exerce a sua actividade. Foi extinto em 2015 (Despacho 6239/2015 - Diário da República, 2.ª série — N.º 109 — 5 de junho de 2015).
