Resumo
The growing use of Renewable Energy Systems in today?s society requires its integration in the Electrical Grid as we know it. Power Quality is one of the main issues concerning this integration. Power Quality parameters as current and voltage Total Harmonic Distortion, Power Factor and RMS value of the voltage at the point of connection with electrical grid are important issues to be taken into account. This thesis describes the use of a Unified Power Quality Conditioner (UPQC) based modular system as an interface to connect Renewable Energy Systems, particularly Photovoltaic Systems, to the electrical grid. Adequate control strategies are described for the proposed modular system to improve Power Quality, guaranteeing the mitigation of voltage and current harmonics, as well as the simultaneous compensation of dips from the electrical grid. The Photovoltaic System was considered as a standalone system with Energy Storage. It was developed with the help of the PVSyst®, software considering real data taken from Geographic Information Systems. Results are obtained for the proposed module using Matlab/Simulink®, and Power Quality parameters are evaluated. Two scenarios are simulated: the module working as interface between the PV System and the low voltage grid and the module used in a Micro-grid of Distributed PV Systems. The assumptions and obtained results are discussed and compared with other scenarios.
