Abstract

A DC-DC (Direct Current - Direct Current) voltage switched step-up converter with integrated control, implemented in CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) 0,35um, 5V, standard technology was designed to supply portable equipment display?s LED?s (Light Emitting Diodes), such as PDA?s (Personal Digital Assistants), as a Final Course Project, for a Master in Engenharia Electrotécnica e de Computadores in Instituto Superior Técnico of Universidade Técnica de Lisboa. The switched DC-DC converter developed and implemented, with active control, allows boosting the 3,3V Lithium battery voltage (Li+) to 5V used to supply three series connected ultra-bright LED?s, it uses an inductor and a capacitor as storing energy elements. The converter integrated control system was developed in an average model basis; it allows keeping the output voltage in the specified values range using 5MHz switching pulse width modulation.
