Abstract

This thesis analyses whether reducing CO2 eq emissions in the construction sector, namely in-house design, is possible. The reduction of emissions is studied through the design of a single-family house in the Algarve. The decrease in carbon emissions is studied with new construction proposals for the different parts of the house using natural, recycled, or reused techniques and materials. Previously, the location where the house will be built and the climate, among other essential characteristics, were analysed. Next, the material necessary to construct the previously designed house is calculated. Subsequently, the CO2 eq emissions are calculated assuming they are built with standard materials from the construction sector. Then, the emissions are calculated, assuming they are built with the proposed materials and techniques. Finally, it is studied whether emissions have been saved, and the total savings of the house between both options is calculated. The results show that this option could help to achieve climatic targets.
