Abstract

The present dissertation is part of a series of studies requested by the Administração Central do Sistema de Saúde with the aim of classifying and identifying the severity of seismic risk in the Public Hospital Building Stock of Mainland Portugal, within a sample of 97 hospital establishments. To achieve this, the case of a fictional reinforced concrete building with a structural wall system was studied to assess the acceptable seismic vulnerability according to current conditions. Initially, a data analysis of the characteristics of the Public Hospital Park was carried out, concluding the predominance of reinforced concrete buildings in the sample with a presence of 50% and justifying their relevance for this study. Once the geometry was defined, the design and analysis of the building were carried out, using the provisions of the Portuguese Standard EN 1998-1 regarding the design of reinforcements and the behavior coefficient, and others. After calculating the seismic action, a nonlinear model of the building was developed in SeismoStruct to calculate its capacity curve, and subsequently, the performance point was calculated, which, by interaction with the fragility curves proposed by LNEC, Laboratório Nacional de Engenharia Civil, and the HAZUS methodology, allowed to determine the probability of occurrence of different damage states considering the requirements arising from Regulation 302/2019 of September 12 and Portuguese Standard NP EN 1998-3:2017. This probability of occurrence was then considered in the calculation of the building's seismic risk index and taken as the threshold.
