Abstract
The failure of an important part of an aircraft during service is considered unacceptable by the aeronautic industry. To prevent such disasters and to maintain a high degree of quality and reliability, the utmost care is necessary during production and maintenance of the several aircrafts components. In such cases the Non Destructive Testing NDT plays a very important role. This work presents the development and application of a functional prototype of a NDT system for inspection of aeronautic components, namely, propeller blades and wheels. The geometric and mechanical characterization of the selected aeronautic components is also presented, as well as the respective defects, in what respects location, dimensions and morphology. The dedicated NDT system for the inspection of these aeronautic components includes: i) innovative and conventional eddy current probes; ii) automatized mechanical devices for movement of the probes; and iii) dedicated software with graphic user interface. The preliminary results reveal the high potential of the developed NDT system, namely in reliability and reduction of the inspection time.
