An unprecedented triorganotin carboxylate structure – an isolated aggregate containing neutral and deprotonated forms of a carboxylic acid

Abstract

<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title> <jats:p>Crystallography reveals that the title compound, <jats:italic>n</jats:italic>Bu<jats:sub>3</jats:sub>SnL(LH) features a neutral <jats:italic>n</jats:italic>Bu<jats:sub>3</jats:sub>SnL species complexed to the neutral form of the carboxylic acid, where LH is 2-[(<jats:italic>E</jats:italic>)-2-(4-hydroxy-3-methylphenyl)diazen-1-yl]benzoic acid. The resulting trigonal bipyramidal coordination geometry is based on a <jats:italic>trans</jats:italic>-C<jats:sub>3</jats:sub>O<jats:sub>2</jats:sub> donor set; O–Sn–O = 167.59(13)°. As such, a new structural motif is found for triorganotin carboxylates. In the crystal structure, two <jats:italic>n</jats:italic>Bu<jats:sub>3</jats:sub>SnL(LH) molecules self assemble via O–HO hydrogen bonding leading to the formation of 48-membered macrocyclic rings. Crystal data for C<jats:sub>40</jats:sub>H<jats:sub>50</jats:sub>N<jats:sub>4</jats:sub>O<jats:sub>6</jats:sub>Sn: triclinic, <jats:italic>P</jats:italic>-1, <jats:italic>a</jats:italic> = 11.792(7), <jats:italic>b</jats:italic> = 12.887(7), <jats:italic>c</jats:italic> = 13.708(7) Å, <jats:italic>α</jats:italic> = 71.61(3), <jats:italic>β</jats:italic> = 78.39(3), <jats:italic>γ</jats:italic> = 82.80(4)°, <jats:italic>V</jats:italic> = 1932.0(18) Å<jats:sup>3</jats:sup>, <jats:italic>Z</jats:italic> = 2, <jats:italic>R</jats:italic> = 0.066.</jats:p>
