Degree Coordination Decision Support System

The coordinator of a higher education degree has to make strategic decisions for ensuring the excellence of the degree's performance. The degree coordinator's decision making needs to be supported by data regarding the degree's main areas, which, in many cases, is manually gathered and processed. These tasks require time and effort from the coordinator and are prone to human error, which could be mitigated by introducing a software application to automate the tasks. In this document, we propose a decision support system for degree coordination, based on a data warehouse, that automatically performs the tasks of gathering data and storing it in a format suitable for analysis. The data is used to generate dashboards, that indicate the performance of the various areas of the degree, ultimately providing useful insights that will enhance the coordinator's decision making. The proposed solution addresses a set of defined business requirements, and was guided by an analysis of literature and relevant works regarding decision support systems and higher education, as well as technologies for supporting the implementation of the project. Furthermore, the system proposed was evaluated, having been determined to be capable of obtaining all the required key performance indicators. The data stored by our system had 100% of matches when compared with data processed by the degree coordinator. Usability tests determined an average System Usability Scale score of 85.18 out of 100.
