Resumo

A dissertação analisa a configuração da Exposição de Arte e de Design, pensando a sua moldura ideológica e sociocultural, de modo a compreender qual o seu papel nos museus do século XXI. Defende-se a possibilidade de a Exposição de Arte e de Design se transformar em uma “Obra de Arte Total” (Gesamtkunstwerk), através da ativação do espaço expositivo, das peças e dos públicos, criando uma experiência estética envolvente e significativa. Argumenta-se que as exposições de Arte e Design podem, assim, contribuir para fazer do museu um lugar para uma vivência estética global de forma a contribuir para um movimento de transcendência e de superação através das artes, quer em termos individuais quer coletivos. Estuda-se, por isso, a possível extrapolação dos pressupostos do conceito de “Obra de Arte Total” para o campo da Museologia e da Curadoria. Para tal, observa-se os ecos, persistências e reinterpretações deste conceito nas práticas artísticas desde o início do século XX e analisa-se como os artistas, curadores e arquitetos trabalharam a Exposição como Obra, muitas vezes com a intencionalidade de uma “Obra de Arte Total”. Considera-se como casos de estudo os espaços expositivos de três museus da primeira década do século XXI demonstrativos da superação da dicotomia contentor/conteúdo, da valorização fenomenológica da Arquitetura, do trabalho colaborativo entre a Museologia, a Curadoria e a Arquitetura sob uma visão integradora, e da experiência multissensorial da Exposição. The dissertation analyse the configuration of the Exhibition of Art and Design thinking about its ideological and sociocultural framework in order to understand its role in the museums of the 21st century. It is advocated the possibility of the Exhibition of Art and Design be transformed into a “Total Work of Art” (Gesamtkunstwerk), through the activation of the exhibition space, the pieces and the public, in order to seek to create a more engaging and meaningful aesthetic experience. It is argued that the exhibitions of Art and Design can thus contribute to make the museum a place for a global aesthetic experience in order to promote a movement of transcendence and overcoming through the arts, both individually and collectively. Therefore, the possible extrapolation of the assumptions of the concept of "Total Art Work" into the field of Museology and Curatorship is studied. In order to do so, it is observed the echoes, persistences and reinterpretations of this concept in the artistic practices since the beginning of the 20th century and analysed how the artists, curators and architects worked the Exhibition as a Work, often with the intentionality of a "Total Art Work". The exhibition spaces of three museums of the first decade of the 21st century are considered as case studies since they demonstrate the overcoming of the container/content dichotomy, the phenomenological appreciation of Architecture, the collaborative work between Museology, Curatorship and Architecture towards an integrative vision, and the multisensory experience of the Exhibition.
