Abstract

With the development of Industry 4.0, it is essential for each industry to keep pace with advances in technology in order to remain competitive. The evolution of technology requires the acquisition of highly specialized skills, which in turn require targeted training. This dissertation focuses on identifying the skill needs and gaps in the Portuguese maritime sector. A survey is conducted, and its results are analysed to understand the specific requirements of the companies for developing their technologies in their operations. A decisionmaking problem is formulated using a Multi-Criteria Decision Aiding (MCDA) process to assess the criteria and sub-criteria for selecting necessary skills. The skills are then ranked based on an aggregate score, with the competencies with the highest scores being identified as priorities for training initiatives.
