Resumo

Information Visualization is renowned for its ability to convert complex data into a more comprehensible format. Its effectiveness can be further enhanced by tailoring visualizations to individuals' psychological profiles. Personalizing visual content based on user preferences and emotions has the potential to improve data communication across various areas like education, business, and healthcare. Within the context of Information Visualization, color plays a crucial role in conveying information, not only in highlighting patterns and enhancing visual perception, but also in shaping user experience. Given the conventional meaning of red and green in the Occidental culture, this study investigates user preferences and emotional responses to these two specific colors, within a data visualization, with a specific emphasis on the personality dimension of Neuroticism. While existing research has addressed aspects of color, personality, and Information Visualization separately, a notable gap exists in integrating their combined effect. This study contributes to filling this gap by investigating how color variation in Information Visualization affects individuals with different levels of Neuroticism. Data acquisition encompasses self-report questionnaires and physiological measurements using BITalino sensors. Results indicate that Neuroticism influences aesthetic color preference, particularly a preference for green among individuals with higher level of Neuroticism, though it does not appear to significantly affect emotional responses.
