ReadTheWay: A Cultural and Literary Tourism Mobile Application

This thesis describes the design and development of ReadTheWay, a cultural and literary tourism mobile application that offers travelers a chance to connect with their destinations through stories, poems or historical narratives. It addresses the lack of digital solutions focused on cultural tourism by placing literature at the center of the user experience while providing interactive navigation. This project was carried out in collaboration with the ReadTheWay startup and was based on their high-fidelity Figma prototype, transforming it into a fully functional, production-ready application with a strong focus on usability, performance, and scalability. The frontend of the application was implemented in Flutter. To make sure that the application functions well offline, there was a strong emphasis on state management and local persistence. The backend was developed with Spring Boot and PostgreSQL, exposing RESTful API endpoints for a myriad of client operations. Security was also a major focus of this project, with measures such as \ac{JWT}-based authentication, password hashing and role-based access control implemented to protect user data and secure communications. Additionally, testing regarding the soundness of the business logic of the system, its performance and its usability, was conducted.
