Abstract
In practical applications of optimization it is common to find problems where it is impossible to use derivative-based methods, either by considering numerical approximations of the derivatives or by using automatic differentiation tools for their calculation. Frequently, function evaluation uses computational simulation, being of black-box type (given a point, the function value is returned and no further information is provided) and/or could be contaminated by numerical noise. This prevents the use of derivative-based techniques, motivating the use of DerivativeFree Optimization (DFO).
