Abstract
Currently, the design of reinforced concrete structures is often based on models that ignore the presence of masonry, on the pretext that it serves as a second line of defense when the structure is subjected to seismic action. However, numerous studies have shown that adopting this methodology can lead to the neglect of important local and global phenomena. In order to minimize the phenomena associated with the adoption of masonry and eliminate the uncertainty associated with it, the concept of non-interactive masonry emerged. With the aim of exploring this new aspect of masonry, this dissertation presents an experimental study, from which a constitutive model representative of the behavior of non-interactive masonry panels was derived and calibrated, and an analytical study, which examined the overall effects of adopting non-interactive masonry panels in a four-story, three-span reinforced concrete frame for different masonry distribution scenarios. In terms of the accuracy of the numerical model, it was found that it was able to replicate the experimental results very well, particularly in the first loading phase. Regarding the analytical study, it was found that for the performance point of the most common scenario, a completely filled frame, the adoption of non-interactive panels led to an increase in basal strength of about 9% and an increase in top displacement of about 35%, compared to those obtained in the bare frame scenario.
