Currently, I am Assistant Professor and a PhD researcher at Centre for Marine Technology and Engineering (CENTEC), developing research mainly in the areas of guidance and control of autonomous marine vehicles and artificial intelligence in maritime applications.

From 2015 to 2018 I worked as professor and coordinator of the mechanical engineering degree at the Instituto Superior Politécnico de Tecnologias e Ciências (ISPTEC) in Luanda, Angola, being responsible for leading, development, and strategic and operational management of the degree. I received the PhD in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from the Technical University of Lisbon (IST) in 2008 and from 2009 up to 2014 I performed postdoc research at CENTEC. Previously, I received the engineering degree in naval architecture and marine engineering from IST in 1998, and the MPhil degree in marine technology from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, U.K., in 2002. In 2002 and 2003 I pursued postgraduate studies in control systems at the Department of Electrical and Computers Engineering, IST, and in 2004 I continued the studies in guidance and control of marine systems at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Trondheim, Norway.
